Our beagle, Beans, was throwing up bile and wouldn't settle. We grabbed our phones and started the kind of search every pet owner knows: Google “emergency vet near me,” click the first result, sigh when the hours are stale, scroll past three out-of-state directory sites, give up, try Yelp, give up, ask Nextdoor, wait.
Two hours later we found a real, open, excellent emergency clinic seven minutes from our house. Beans was fine. We were not. The directory we needed didn't exist — so we built it.
